From Tony Gardea, Next Level Sports Management
Hello everyone
This update is coming to on behalf of Ernesto who wants to pass along his best to all his supporters, and to the people who have written to him over the past two months. He and his wife Carolina have been blown away by the outpouring of support hes received and want to thank everyone for all they've done.
We've mentioned in the past how much Ernesto appreciates the letters and how he likes to read each one, well nothing has changed in that department. He especially likes to read the handmade letters that are sent in from kids who have drawings of Ernesto in crayon or included pictures of themselves on a bike.
His positive attitude and outgoing personality have been unaffected, as they should. He is really enjoying his stay at the rehab center in Colorado, where he is getting unbelievable treatment from some of the most caring people you'd ever want to meet. They have him up and around in a wheelchair in rehab five days a week, working through various exercises and programs to regain strength and mobility. They have him on a strict schedule work, rest and play
nothing different than his previous routine of being a professional motocross racer!
Although he still does not use of his legs (which we, and the doctors, are not giving up on, by the way), he is regaining a lot of his strength and comfort. He is off the ventilator and breathing on his own, and eats and drinks much, much better. He is up and around everyday in a motorized cart, but they have also began working him in a manual chair, which they think he will be in by the time he leaves Colorado (probably the end of July). All in all, he's making great progress and combined with his upbeat spirit, and the love from his family, friends and fans, the future looks pretty good for this very special person.
He also wants to thank all those who have sent in donations through the web site, and to those who have stepped up during this difficult time. He really appreciates the support and says that he will use this as motivation and continue to fight his way to recovery.
Thanks again and keep checking in for more updates on Ernesto!
